Position Purpose: Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists in carrying out the phases of the nursing process as appropriately delegated by the Registered Nurse. Performs activities and functions of resident care, which are task oriented, and within the skill level of the Licensed Practical Nurse, in accordance with Mercy Medical Center protocol. Adheres to the principles of Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors and the philosophy and mission of Mercy in all aspects of job performance.

What you will Do:

  • Utilizing the nursing process assists the registered nurse in providing resident care from a holistic approach, specific to the age of the resident population identified within the department/unit scope of service, and in accordance with the department/unit standards.

  • Demonstrates ability to anticipate/identify physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the resident and appropriately reports to the Registered Nurse.

  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with registered nurses, certified nursing assistants and other multi-disciplinary team members, as well as residents, families and significant others.

  • Implements and documents appropriated teaching needs to residents/family/significant others as delegated by the Registered Nurse.

  • Prioritizes and implements appropriated interventions and treatments as delegated by the registered nurse, utilizing the formulated plan of care;

  • Collaborates with the registered nurse to evaluate and document resident responses to the plan of care, mediations, treatments and therapies (ongoing resident assessments).

  • Identifies and communicates significant changes in residents status (potential or actual adverse resident occurrences) to the Registered Nurse.

  • Reports and records aspects of data collection/tasks performed into the residents record accurately and concisely;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires an active Iowa LPN license in good standing.

  • LPN Supervisor Training required within 30 days.

  • One year of experience is preferred.

  • Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.

  • Positively promotes the image of Mercy Medical Center.

  • Successful completion of security background check.
