University of Rochester Mental Health Therapist, MHFC in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides professional social work/mental health counseling therapeutic services for children and families; partners with the client, and collaborates with MHFC staff, community collaterals, and other social service resources while completing the psycho-social and planning for treatment needs for the family; participates in intervention-specific training and other relevant professional development to implement evidence based treatment services for clients; may interface within systems such as local school districts and early childhood programs; participates in ongoing supervision with program and clinical staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under direction and with considerable independence, performs complex therapeutic duties in accordance with treatment manuals and is assigned cases by Clinical Coordinator according to experience and competence. Quality of work done is determined through observation and review of cases by a Senior Clinical Staff member.

  • Evaluates the psycho-social status of clients and families to determine specific needs for service and performs complex psychosocial assessments and diagnostic formulations for clients and their families. Provides intensive assistance through counseling and direct services with the client and client's family, in accordance with treatment manual. Discusses and collaboratively plans for treatment with clients; Provides intensive support and assistance through counseling and implements direct services within specific evidenced based models of intervention. Abides by HIPAA rules and regulations when working with families. Helps clients and families manage and cope with home and community challenges, which sometimes can impact parenting, mental health, and healthy child development.

  • Therapeutic services occur in the family's homes, via telehealth, in community locations, or at the center, depending on family need. Providing transportation in personal vehicle may be needed at times, and thus requires a valid driver’s license. Refers client and family to community resources to maintain continuity of service. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with community agencies which may be helpful to clients.

  • Attends clinical staff meetings to coordinate the efforts of the program, to participate in reflective supervision, and to gain support in order to provide high quality services for clients and their families. Develops a service treatment plan for individuals, which may involve connecting the family with other community resources. Attends and participates in departmental, professional and special meetings to keep abreast of social service activities and to share new developments at Mt. Hope Family Center. Meets with members of community agencies to share information, procedures and techniques. Maintains a thorough knowledge of social work/mental health counseling/marriage and family/psychology practices and the policies of community agencies through workshops, symposia and clinical literature.

  • Make recommendations on procedures and policies as needed. Completes recording and reporting on all cases according to established clinical procedures and policies in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Conducts correspondence with other institutions and community agencies.

  • Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for clients with clearly defined therapeutic goals; conducts evidence-informed treatment with clients and families

  • Collaborates with referral sources and other internal and external professionals throughout client care activities. Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated.

  • Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling required.

  • 1-2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) or ASL fluency preferred.

  • Valid NY Drivers’ License and Reliable Transportation required.

  • NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) or limited permit eligible upon hire required or

  • If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 36 months to obtain the NYS license required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $57,595 - $80,600 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
