Carilion Clinic Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Practice -Surgical Critical Care in Roanoke, Virginia
Carilion Clinic has a full time opportunity availavble for a Surgical Critical Care Nurse Practitioner. This NP will participate in the management of patients admitted to the surgical and NeuroTrauma Intensive Care Units as an integral member of the SCC Team. Will work to establish and to promote a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, as evidenced by participation in multidisciplinary rounds, sign out and weekly team meetings. Performs a daily assessment on patients, contributes to completion of admission history and physical and provides daily progress and procedural notes. Based on protocols or in collaboration with the physician arranges for necessary laboratory, radiologic and/or other diagnostic tests as needed. Collaborates, as needed with other health care professionals in the formulation and initiation of a health care plan. Assesses learning needs of patients, families and staff. Plans, provides and coordinates patient/family education in collaboration with other professionals. Facilitates patient transfer and/or discharge summary. Because the facility is a 24/7 operation, position includes participation in various schedules to include on call, day, evening, night, and/or weekend rotations or coverage.

Education: Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Licensure/Certification: Current Virginia State Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) and DEA license required, or must be eligible to obtain. AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced Life Support certification required. Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Medicine. Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's malpractice insurance carrier.
Other: Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers. Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
