PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Associate General Counsel at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this job is to provide legal counsel and services to management and staff of PenFed and its subsidiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Lead attorney for handling PenFed’s financial services litigation with the assistance of outside counsel as necessary.

  • Lead attorney for legal questions regarding PenFed’s collection efforts, including bankruptcy, foreclosures and consumer protection laws and regulations.

  • Provide legal advice concerning a variety of matters including the establishment, interpretation and revision of credit union policies, organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations, contractual agreements, personnel and fiscal issues.

  • Negotiate commercial transactions, often involving substantial organization assets and commitments.

  • Develop and modify operational programs, working with divisional representatives and conforming proposed practices and procedures with legal requirements.

  • Draft, review and revise various legal instruments involving the interests of the credit union, subsidiaries and members.

  • Keep informed of legislation, regulations, judicial and other legal developments and trends affecting federal credit unions and related matters.

  • Serve as an officer of the credit union and as a member of the Management Staff, working with other Management Staff members to develop goals and strategies in order to meet the objectives set by Senior Management.

  • Assist with training and direction of OGC attorneys.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Graduate degree from an accredited law school required.

  • Minimum of eight to fifteen (8-15) years’ experience as a practicing attorney in litigation, and the fields of bankruptcy, real estate, corporate, and financial law required.

  • Membership in the bar of the highest court of a state required.

Licenses and Certifications

The employee will be required to maintain membership in the bar of the highest court of a state.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
