Associate General Counsel, Sr. - Carelon Network Contracting

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). The Ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of one of our Elevance Health PulsePoint locations.

The Associate General Counsel, Sr. - Carelon Network Contracting will be responsible for network contracting for the business unit and leveraging in-depth knowledge of network contracting and provider issues to provide advice and recommendations to executives and management on highly complex matters which have a broad organizational impact and high level of risk. Partners with clients to drive strategic outcomes and make complex decisions.

How you will make an impact:

  • Advises business partners on complex contracting best practices; drafts, edits, and revises provider agreements; and leads provider dispute resolution efforts.

  • Uses professional legal theories and best practices to contribute to development of company’s concepts and principles and to achieve enterprise objectives in an original and highly effective way. This position is regarded as an expert in network contracting and provider issues due to the combination of advanced legal and business knowledge.

  • Confers with other senior leaders including ELT members., and provides concise, timely briefings to senior level business and legal management.

  • Works on extremely complex and multifaceted problems in which analysis of solutions and/or facts require an evaluation of intangible variables.

  • Provides ad hoc work direction and supervision to other legal staff regarding support on active matters.

  • Establishes a proactive, engaged partnership with Carelon Behavioral Health business leadership to prevent or reduce the unnecessary escalation of issues.

  • Operates within a matrixed organization, which includes both Carelon and Elevance leaders.

  • Manages multiple, high-profile, fast-moving projects in an organized manner, paying close attention to details.

  • Leads legal projects which have a broad organizational impact and high level of risk.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a JD, current license to practice law and minimum of 15 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure including experience in managing outside counsel; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • Preferred candidate has both strong health care network contracting and regulatory expertise.

  • Experience working in a health plan or other organization that contracts with large provider organizations is a plus.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $194,040 to $318,780.
