The Protein Biochemist I is responsible for the production of various proteins and their conjugation as well as antigen production and maintenance for downstream manufacturing, finished good catalog items, and custom orders in accordance with Quidel's Quality System Regulations. This role will be located in Athens, OH. The Responsibilities Preparation of all materials required for the production and testing of the proteins. Operates moderately complex laboratory equipment such as FPLC, spectrophotometer, and lyophilizers, for example. Performs small or moderate scale antibody production in suspension mammalian cell culture created from use of aseptic cell culture techniques for cell isolation and cloning methods Performs single and multi-step purification of proteins using ion exchange, affinity, size exclusion and gel filtration chromatography methods from a variety of biological components. Performs simple and complex protein conjugations using FITC, RPE, HRP and Biotin. Performs qualifications and characterization testing for intermediate materials and finished goods using ELISA, gel electrophoresis, absorbance and various other analytical methods. Prepares complete and cohesive reports for production summaries and department meetings. Performs routine lab maintenance while ensuring all preventative maintenance and equipment calibrations are maintained to schedule. Helps maintain raw and intermediate material inventories. The Individual Required Skills: Bachelor's Degree in a biology, biochemistry, chemistry or other related science field with An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered if related and applicable to job requirements. Strong core competency in biochemistry, microbiology and protein engineering and purification. Ability to set-up custom spreadsheets and analysis templates in various data analysis or equipment software for daily examination, interpretation and trend identification to determine suitable progression of production timeline. Knowledge of methods and techniques to support process improvement and product development activities for new and existing products with a focus on improving yields and cost reduction. Proficient at sustained communication with supervisor and cross functional teams on daily production progress and key project initiatives. Expertise in project organization and time management will be key for production success. Compliance procedures defined by a set of standards regulated by requirements from FDA, any export countries and ISO organizations Must be able to work under moderate to minimal supervision.
